How health-related quality of life is valued can have important implications for QALY calculations, cost-effectiveness assessments, and ultimately, reimbursement decisions.
A new report from the Health Economics and Policy research group at Karolinska Institutet, commissioned by the Tandvårds- och läkemedelsförmånsverket, TLV examines this question.
Building on previous research, the report systematically compares newly developed Swedish, Nordic, and UK EQ-5D-5L value sets, focusing on:
🔹 Methodological approaches – differences in how health-related quality of life is valued.
🔹 Validity – evaluating the validity of alternative value sets.
🔹Health economic implications – how the choice of value set affects QALY calculations and cost-effectiveness assessments across treatments.
The report provides an evidence base for future discussions and decisions on which EQ-5D-5L value set should be used in Swedish health technology assessments (HTA) and reimbursement decisions.
We are pleased to highlight the contribution of our colleague Olivia Ernstsson, Project Leader at Quantify Research, who participated in this research through her academic affiliation with Karolinska Institutet, independently of Quantify Research.
