The natural history of severe asthma is complex and poorly understood, and until recently we were unable to effectively predict the progression of the disease. To shed light on this important area, we are delighted to share our latest study from the pan-Nordic research collaboration NORDSTAR, entitled “Severe asthma trajectories in adults: findings from the NORDSTAR cohort” just published in the September issue of the European Respiratory Journal.
Moreover, our article is also featured in an editorial in this month’s issue of the ERJ: https://erj.ersjournals.com/content/62/3/2301281
In this study we identified four distinct trajectories of severe asthma, illustrating different patterns of progression of asthma severity, which we hope will enable the development of better preventive management strategies.
A huge thanks to all collaborators who contributed to this study including:
- Key opinion leaders from the Nordic Severe Asthma Network led by Celeste Porsbjerg, Apostolos Bossios and Lauri Lehtimäki
- The NORDSTAR coordination hub, Respiratory research unit Bispebjerg Hospital (Anna von Bülow and Susanne Hansen)
- Quantify Research (Kirk Geale, Patrik Sandin, Olivia Ernstsson)
- Our sponsors: Sheila Tang from Sanofi Regeneron and Maija Wolf from Novartis.
We are also excited to share that the NORDSTAR platform in addition to Sanofi Regeneron has onboarded two new sponsors, AstraZeneca and GSK. We look forward to continuing using the ground-breaking NORDSTAR platform for research that will change patient lives – watch this space for more!
